Božidar Jurjević
Božidar Jurjević was born in 1963 in Dubrovnik. After studying at the Visual Arts Academy in Sarajevo, he returned to Dubrovnik where he still lives to this day. He spent the period of the siege of Dubrovnik in the town. He was active in the Art radionica Lazareti [Lazareti Art Workshop] from its very beginnings. During the siege, together with his fellow artists, he drew inspiration from the war sufferings of the town. At the end of 1992 and again in 1995 he was mobilised and spent a part of the war at positions in Croatia and eastern Herzegovina. In 1990, with a few other artists from Dubrovnik, he participated in the project "Pustinja slobode" [Freedom Desert] in which, in some form, future war events were anticipated. The primary medium of his artistic expression is performance. To this day, he conceptualises art performances through which he expresses opposition to the current government in Dubrovnik and the current social situation. He lives in Dubrovnik and is a freelance artist.
